The Environmental Problems & Rules

Nowadays there are many environmental problems in the world such as global warming, the greenhouse effect, polluted rivers, seas & oceans; the shortage of natural resources; dirty atmosphere; destroying rainforests & many others.

But, to my mind, keeping our planet clean is not very difficult when everybody follows the environmental rules.

Firstly, if people use only unleaded petrol & don’t let factories pollute the air, the atmosphere will be cleaner.

Secondly, unless humans poison rivers, seas & oceans and destroy rainforests, fewer fish will die & rare plants & endangered species of animals will survive.

Also, if we recycle paper, glass, plastic and aluminum cans, we will save important natural resources.

Besides, we should take care of cities & countryside.  People shouldn’t drop litter in the streets or leave their rubbish behind after picnics. They should take it home in a bag. And the council should provide bins.

Moreover, we mustn’t burn autumn leaves & rubbish because it makes the pollution worse. We can also save energy using less electricity, gas & water.

All in all, there are many ways to help protect our environment & I believe everybody should take part in it. Because you know what they say – if you are not a part of the solution, then you are a part of the problem.

Rest and Leisure

     What’s your favourite time for rest and leisure? I think that summer holidays are the best. You can choose any place you like to go to. If you like cold climate you can go to Sweden. But some people think if they go there, they’ll freeze to death. The way out is to go somewhere a bit warmer. For instance in the Caribbean the weather is much hotter. But the prices are much more expensive than most people can afford, so they can find somewhere cheaper. Portugal is as beautiful as the Caribbean, but not as crowded. You can get there either by train or by plane.  On the one hand with planes you can travel a great distance in a little time. On the other going by train is safe because there is no other traffic and there is less chance of having an accident. All in all it’s up to you to make a choice and see what difference it makes.

  Let me introduce myself. I am … I was born in Zaporozhye . It is in the south-east of Ukraine. I have been living in this town since my childhood. Now I am going to tell you about my family and about myself. We are a family of_____

     My father is_______ He works as a__________ He is neither young nor old. My father is a handsome man. He is clever and a very sociable person. My mother is __________She works as a __________My mother is pretty and she is always elegant and smart. My brother\sister is… As for me, I am a good-looking child with fair hair and  _______eyes.

When I was five years old I was a cute baby with fair curly hair. I had rosy cheeks and red lips. I could draw pictures and ride a bicycle, but I couldn’t read well and play basketball. My Mum says that when I was five I was rather a naughty child.

     We are a friendly family. It is a custom in my family to discuss things during meals. We discuss different topics. We are getting on all right.

 

 

 

The English proverb says “Tastes  differ”. I think it’s true because different people have different interests. Many people are fond of reading, some of them are fond of sports or hiking and camping but as for me I like travelling.      For some people that would be great to spend their free time in a romantic castle with excellent food and drink or have a relaxing break in one of the luxurious holiday centers. Others are fond of funfairs or amazing theme parks like Disneyland or Dinosaur Park.      As for me I enjoy spending my holidays with my family at the seaside. I’m fond of playing on the water slides, going swimming, taking some pictures or just admiring the sea.      Next summer we are going to spend our holidays by the river. We are going to go fishing, sleep in our tent, have dinner by a camp fire, have picnics by the river every day. I’m sure it’s going to be so much fun.

Sport

6^th form

     Sport is very important in our life. People all over the world are fond of sports and games. Sport and physical exercises help us keep fit, be healthy and strong. Every child likes to play games. When you are faster and stronger than your friend – you can win. So sport helps us get a great sense of achievement.

     There are summer and winter kinds of sports. The most popular winter sports are skating, skiing and hockey. It’s so nice to go to the skating rink with your friends. The most popular summer sports are running, swimming, boating and cycling. Some people enjoy going fishing, waterskiing, scuba diving, kayaking or snorkeling. I can’t help saying that football is the most popular game in the world. It is played on every continent, and it has millions of fans.

    As for me, I spend most of my spare time rollerblading, Ireally enjoy it. It helps me to feel happy, full of energy and make new friends.

   So, as the old Latin proverb says, “A sound mind in  a sound body”. Sport is very important for everybody and it plays a great role in our life.  

English - speaking Countries and Their Traditions.

     Speaking about traditions of English-speaking countries I can’t help saying about winter holidays and their celebrations. In winter people celebrate such holidays as New Year, Christmas, St. Valentine’s Day. As for me, my favourite winter holiday is Christmas and I’d like to tell you some words about it.

     In many countries people celebrate this holiday on 25^th December. They buy presents and Christmas cards for their nearest and dearest. Also people decorate Christmas tree with coloured lights and balls. On Christmas Eve all family members sit around a big table and have traditional Christmas dishes: roast turkey and Christmas pudding. They sing carols, dance and have a lot of fun.

     Children like Christmas, as no one do. They believe that Santa Claus rides over the sky on his sleigh with a big bag of presents. He gets into children’s homes through the chimneys and puts the presents into the stockings, they put on the fireplaces. So in the morning, when children get presents, they become very happy.

Help Yourself to Ukrainian Borshch

  Borshch has had a special and important place on the daily menu of the Ukrainian people for many years. It is usually served as a first course for dinner. It tastes best when served with pampushkas (small round buns) and garlic.

Steps

1.      Put meat into a large saucepan. Add water and bring to the boil over a medium-high heat. Turn heat to low. Simmer for about 40 minutes.

2.      Add potato, cabbage and simmer for 10 more minutes.

3.      Add pre-cooked beans.

4.      Put onion, carrot, celery and beetroot into a frying pan. Add sunflower oil and brown for 5 minutes. Add tomato sauce. Stir the mix into the saucepan.

5.      Add salt, sugar  and pepper to taste.

Serve the borshch hot and with sour cream. Sprinkle it with dill and\or parsley, and don’t forget the pampushkas and garlic

   Shopping

     Shopping is connected with our life. It’s no wonder because we go shopping every day. We buy different goods: food, clothes, electronic items, itc. Some people like to spend their free time going  shopping.   Such people like  to travel and shop at the same time. For example, they can go to London on a shopping trip. It can be a special treat for somebody’s birthday. They can stay at the White Rose Hotel in Paddington. It’s near the city centre, so it will be easy to get to all the main shopping areas. One of them is Oxford Street, in the West End where Top Shop is situated – they usually have some great bargains. They can also go to Knightsbridge to visit Harrods. It’s a bit expensive, but it’s nice to look at the latest fashion from the world’s top designers. They also can go to Planet Hollywood in Piccadilly. It’s a really popular place, with tasty food and great music. It’ll be a chance to dress up in the new clothes. So going shopping can be necessary and interesting at the same time. As for me I ……..shopping. I go shopping …….

Travelling

     Many people in the world are fond of travelling. Some of them like to travel by car, by train or ship. Some of them fancy travelling on foot.  As for me my favourite means of transport is a plane because it’s fast. Last spring my family and I visited Italy.

    We were having a wonderful time there in Rome. The weather was quite good, but it often rained.  We were staying in a nice hotel near the train station.

     We had visited a lot of places of interest, such as the Coliseum, the Fontana di Trivia and Vatican. My mother spent a lot of time going shopping in the famous Via Veneto. We ate at a wonderful restaurant by the river. While we were having lunch though, it started rain.

      I must say that we enjoyed every minute of being there. But at the same time I think that the proverb “East or West home is best” is true to life.

School life

     My name is… I live in Zaporozhye, it’s in the south-east of Ukraine. I’m …. years old and I’m a student. I study at school #31 and I’m in year six. Our school is located in the city center.  It was founded over eighty years ago. It is an old four storied building. There are a lot of classrooms here. They are spacy,  light and have all necessary equipment. We study a lot of different subjects, among them are: Ukrainian, English, German, French languages, Maths, History, Nature, Art. My favourite subject is ….. We have six or seven lessons every day.

 I remember my first school day. It was a sunny day. The school yard was full of adults and children. They were carrying beautiful flowers and were very happy. I had flowers, too, and I gave them to my first teacher. I had a new schoolbag with a lot of school items in it. My mother gave me a wooden pencil case for my first day at school. It was heavy, rectangular in shape and made of bright red-coloured wood. The lid of the box was shiny and covered with faded stickers. It fastened with a shiny golden clasp. Inside it was full of sharp pencils and clean new rubbers. It still reminds me of those carefree and innocent days of early childhood when simple things could bring so much pleasure.
